"Treat Equal"

Published September 28, 2009 @ 12:27PM PT

I send thanks to animal advocate Susannah from Spain for sending along the following short video from the Stray Animals Foundation/BGD of Turkey (no links because I couldn't find any; anyone who has more information on these groups, please do share). I won't say more to introduce the ad because it speaks, simply but elegantly, for itself.

I knew where it was going, but it still made my heart ache.

Really touching. I hope it reaches some people who desperately need that message.

What are your criteria for "equal"?

I, too, would like to know. Animals are pure souls. Are you?

    You are probably right.

Your dog would have to lower his standards tremendously to be "equal" with you.

    Dogs are better than that.

This is a great video. Humans don't deserve to be treated like that and neither do animals.

  11. Luella,

I love my dog, I feed him, walk him, take him hunting, take him to the vet as needed, but he is not my moral equal.  He is not equal to my wife.  I agree with the video that abusing dogs is wrong, but they are not "equal" to humans.

I like you Thomas, but you are not my moral equal, as long as there are no follow-up questions.

Looks like we have a new (soy)spammer on the AR blog! Let's welcome Thomas Berg, everyone, to give us the same straw-person arguments and circular logic that we've NEVER heard before.

I'm sure he "really loves animals, though" and "wants them treated well" because "animal welfare is really important" to him. I look forward to the enlightenment I will receive from him.

On a side note, I would like for a video like this to be made about farmed animals in addition to dogs, which are already seen as a LOT closer to equal than farmed animals are. But great video. Transition to a dog at the end was really good and subtle.

Thomas is fishing again. Don't bite. He does this on other causes as well. Wants attention again. Nothing new.

I loved this. It's sad how a big part of people won't understand this beautiful message.
