Cow Collapses on Man -- Guess Whose Condition Is Unknown?

Published September 19, 2009 @ 06:45AM PT

I just saw this news piece from the AP, out of Florida:

The St. Lucie County Fire District reports that a man in his early 30s, who was not identified, was milking cows early Friday morning when one of the animals fell on him. . . .

His injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was released from the hospital later in the day.

It's not clear if the cow was injured.

The human is fine, but his experience warrants a news release. The cow whose collapse led to the man's injuries? We don't know what happened to her or why she collapsed or fell in the first place. Because no one really cares. Because she was just a milk machine.

Living in Florida is so embarrassing.

All are equal in the "United States of Embarrassment". (ooops...Did I say that out loud?)

Although I think that Montana has got you beat. More shameful than most...at least in the animal cruelty and exploitation venue.

  4. Yes, that is correct.  The cow's condition is not news.

    Thomas,

Why so unkind? And unpleasant. Why spend time writing a comment--even just two sentences--that demonstrates so little compassion and is so callous?

Because Thomas is like a bully whose vitality is linked to numbers. He doesn't believe he needs to actually reason because his assumptions are held generally; so he can try to push people around rather freely, or hit and run, resting entirely on what he believes is "common sense." Like the bully, this is all distinct from right and wrong, intelligence and infantilism -- it's a matter of perceived power...and quite telling.

    A.K.A. Sociopath.

I doubt that Thomas is even his real name. Not worth our time to challenge his/her thoughts, as there is no real "person" behind the name.

Just someone who likes to "hit and run" and stir up trouble. Mentality of a poacher or a person who joins a club who has to hides under a sheet to be a member.

Nothing to see here folks, just keep moving on...

This is sad, how quickly animals are discarded! Makes me angry and sad.  I hope the cow is okay.   :-(

Oh the faceless Thomas again! this cockroach has no real personality or compassion for those more intelligent, loving and soulful than ... hmmm, ITSELF! As been said, nothing to see here, obviously the vessel is empty and lacking in so many ways it has no one to love it, so it sheds tears in verbal diahrea to make itself feel like a man! LMAO!!!

As for the above story, why are we even remotely surprised?? The filth that milk these beautiful creatures come from the depths of the sewers! they just exist, they have no hearts either, they are the sporn of all sludge at the bottom of the s*** pit! just like Thomas!! :)

Don't give the Berg-troll your time of day. Clearly someone who wants to make people angry and get more attention.

"Thomas" goes from post to post and comments the same at all causes, trying to get attention that his/her momma clearly never gave him/her.

"Who the hell cares" is one of (Thomas') favorites to quote.

Whoever you are... you have too much time on your hands and a sociopathic personality. A very scary mix.

Just one comment to Faith- don't "dis" the cockroach on Thomas's behalf. They don't deserve to be compared to someone like this. They are better than that.

As for your other adjectives...I agree.

I must be a sociopath too then!  Do you know what PETA stands for?  People Eating Tasty Animals... mmm mmm good!  If everyone on this planet went vegan, there would be no economy, there would be no protein in anyone's diet, and kids would be *gasp* malnourished!

And with the attention comment, yeah Thomas is trying to get attention, but I'm pretty sure you people are doing the same thing.  And your technique is so much worse that his.... you spread lies and slander to get attention.  At least he is just chewing you out.  Honestly, in reference to my post further towards the bottom, I'm not going to respond to you people and your moronic posts anymore.  You are a waste of my time and energy.  I have more important things to do, like write an A+ paper on why recombinant bovine somatotropin is the best technology to be implemented on dairy farms across the world.

And as for the cockroaches, I stomp those nasty creatures into the ground!  And I eat veal for dinner!  Yummy!  Oh, and I eat caged eggs, chicken, pork, and ground beef!  Animal protein is good!  I'm going to see the devil!  Ahhhhhh!

Oh, and I am ALL for the reopening of horse slaughter!  Oh yeah, I went there.  Where else are you going to go with a 1200 to 2000 pound dead horse carcass... why don't we dump it in Stephanie's yard and see what she wants to do with it from there?

I just don't understand why there is so much hate in the media for these poor animals.  It's just too bad that abused cow didn't squash that nasty farmer and then all the cows could have run away.

Stephanie, can I ask you something?  Where do you do your research at?  Because by all means, give me the name of the person so I can bite their head off!  Do you honestly believe the crap you are writing?!  Seriously, come on and get with the program.  The cow probably collapsed from natural causes like, oh I don't know... HEAT STRESS!!!  Hmmm.... let's see, Florida of all places is the best example of why cattle are not produced in areas of high heat stress.  It's too hot for them to produce effectively and it's too hot for them to survive in optimal conditions!  I suggest you stop spreading slander and biased opinions around where absorbent and ignorant people can form an incorrect opinion from someone, like you, who has no idea what she is talking about.  And I mean ignorant by its textbook definition, uninformed and unknowledgeable.  This will not be the last post from me, I am an animal science graduate and I plan on at least trying to set the story straight after all of the articles you are writing that are entirely lacking of the truth.  At least I will try to give you logical reasoning as to why certain practices in animal agriculture are being implemented.  They're not because people hate the animals they are working with, it is actually for the safety and well being of the animal.

Hello Cow Girl... I appreciate that you are so eager to share with us your extensive knowledge about animals... or at least about cows - But I'm a resident here in Florida and can tell you (with great shame) that Florida ranchers raise the third largest number of cattle of any state east of the Mississippi and is 10th in the nation for "production".

Another fact I'm not proud of but will admit for the sake of truth: Ever hear of a Florida "cracker"?  The name refers to the (crack) sound made from the 12 foot leather whip that "cowmen" used to move their herds throughout the savannas, hammocks and scrub palmettos.

So on the topic of HEAT STRESS - you might be interested to know of the many hundreds of cows that have died this summer in Texas and the midwest due to drought: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28691905/

    http://agrilife.tamu.edu/drought/

    4000 cattle died in Nebraska

    http://www.nebraska.tv/Global/story.asp?s=10658917

And 2006 in California 25,000 dead cattle due to drought & heat:

    http://www.usagnet.com/story-national.php?Id=1479&yr=2006

It's odd... the hottest, driest places in the US - most prone to droughts - Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, etc - are where the most cows & feedlots are - Go figure right?

Still it's no big deal when any of these animals die - after all these ranchers and "cow" people are well protected from their losses through the Livestock Forage Disaster Program Forage Disaster Program and the Livestock Indemnity Program.  But you knew that right Cow Girl?

Please do continue to set the story straight for us on how concerned animal agriculture is with the well being of the animals they raise for slaughter.  I'm just breathless to hear more!
