Why this petition matters

Started by M S

The trade in live animals and animal products is extremely detrimental to scorpion populations. Scorpions are harvested from the wild at a staggering rate. They are then killed so that they can be made into various trinkets and souvenirs to supply tourist markets. Such items include keychains, necklaces, candies, and glass ornaments that contain the bodies of deceased scorpions.

The company Kingyea Arts & Crafts Co. LTD is a supplier of several products that contain scorpions in them (ornaments, computer mice, etc).

UPDATE

Hello Everyone,

First off, I would like to give a massive thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and showed support! Scorpions are often feared and hated, this can make advocating for their support an up hill battle. I am more then elated to see people have taken the time to give a voice to these misunderstood creatures. I did get a response from David Lin, it is posted below.

Thanks again for all the support! Together we can make a difference!

Matt Ellerbeck - Scorpion Conservationist

David Lin response:

Dear All,

All the scorpions are bred in the farms, we bought the scorpions and bugs from the farms. Here have many farms that bred the scorpions and other bugs. The scorpion and other bugs we used are not from the natural resources, we do not exploitation of the earth's natural resources.

In China, the scorpions were used as food, also the scorpion were used as Chinese traditional medicine. Attached is some photo of the farms, please take a look. I do understand your deportment becuase the difference of culture.

Please do not send me email again.

In response to this, I have changed the petition letter.
